5G iPhones Might Not Have The Fastest (Theoretical) Upload Speeds

5G offers various improvements over 4G, a couple of which are its speeds where it is proven to feature both faster download and upload speeds. However, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he believes that the upcoming 5G iPhone, it might not necessarily be capable of hitting max upload speeds.

This is because previously it was rumored that the 5G iPhone could support 2×2 MIMO uplink, where the device might feature the use of six power amplifiers that would help the device reacher higher speeds. However, Kuo now believes that the 5G iPhone might only use one or two amplifiers, thus reducing the theoretical upload speeds of the phone.

For those unfamiliar, MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) is a technique in which it allows for both the sending and receiving of more than one data signal simultaneously over the same radio channel. This is expected to result in better spectrum efficiency and higher data throughput.

That being said, while in theory it could mean that the iPhone could suffer from slightly slower upload speeds, the question is whether or not these differences can be felt in real life. This is because network speed is determined by other factors, such as how many people are using it and also how good your reception is.

This means that there is a distinct probability that in real-life day-to-day usage, iPhone users might not necessarily be able to tell the difference, but we’ll have to wait and see and test it out for ourselves.
